Charles Bulfinch (1763-1844)
Charles Bulfinch, the architect who built
University Hall was educated at Harvard. He traveled throughout
Europe during the years 1785-1787, where he was advised by Thomas Jefferson.
Involved in the planning of much of old Boston; his churches are influenced
by the Englishman Sir Christopher Wren. From 1817 to 1830 he was in
charge of the design of the Capitol in Washington.
