Wind Sculptures

Near the restaurant Bluemlismatt in Egerkingen (Switzerland), there is a nice wind sculpture made by Toni Obrist. Google Maps . Mathematically, these wind games are coupled penduli. More specifically, they are driven Hamiltonian systems. It is surprisingly hard to write down the differential equations of such a system without using some theory, the theory of Lagrangian mechanics, which is studied by Mathematicians into a field called Hamiltonian geometry which belongs both to geometry as well as dynamical systems theory.
