## Final exam

Our final exam took place on May 17, 2014, at 9 AM in Hall A. Exam group 1. and [PDF]. We had a global Math 1a review session in Science center Hall A on Wednesday, May 14, 1014 from 3-4:30 PM. The average was 74/100 points with standard deviation 16.

The practice exams have the same structure than the exam. Here are the main themes:
 Know functions: sin, cos, tan, arcsin, arccos, arctan, xn, 1/x, exp, log, sinc, sign. Theorems: fundamental theorem DSf(x)=f(x),SDf=f(x)-f(0), intermediate value theorem Is a function f invertible or not? Is it even or odd? What is the domain and range? Decide about continuity and type of discontinuity (jump, oscillatory, or escape to infinity) Determine limits limx to a f(x). Especially fix broken points in the Hospital. Heal a function by dividing out common roots like in (x^5-1)/(x-1) Theorems: extremal value theorem, fundamental theorem of trigonometry Find the roots of a function, know the Newton step method to construct roots Find the derivative of a function using rules like product, quotient or chain rule Match functions with their derivatives, both algebraically as well as graphically Find critical points and spot sad "Maxi", happy "Mini" or indifferent "Toby" (to be determined). Find global maxima and global minima on a closed interval
