The final Math 1a exam took place at 2 PM on May 8, in Hall E. We had a final review on Thursday, May 3th 2012 from 7:30 PM 9:00 PM in Science Center Hall D (featuring Liz with the 3D printer).

The final exam average score was 83 (scaled to 100) The standard deviation was 18 (again if all scores were scaled to 100).

The first hourly took place on Tuesday, April 5, 2012 at 6 PM in Hall E. The average was 79, the standard deviation still 15. Here were the three practice exams.

You should get a pretty good idea about the scope of the exam by looking at the practice exams. Here are problem types:

Know functions: sin,cos,tan,asin,acos,atan,polynomials,1/x, exp,log, sinc, sign.	Theorems: DSf(x)=f(x),SDf=f(x)-f(0), intermediate value, extremal value, fund thm. of trig	Is a function f from A to B invertible or not? Is it even or odd, or neither?	Decide about continuity and type of discontinuity (jump, oscillatory, or escape to infinity)	Determine limits limx to a f(x), also with l'Hopital's rule	Heal a function by dividing out common roots. Especially know (x^5-1)/(x-1)
Find roots of a function, especially linear quadratic and trig, know Newton step	Find the derivative of a function using rules like product rule, chain rule	Match functions with their derivatives, both algebraically as well as graphically	Find critical points and determine whether local max, local min, or saddle point	Find global maxima and minima	Know what the Newton method is
