Descartes and Queen Christina
A famous picture of
Pierre-Louis Dumesnil
(1698-1781) repainted by Nils Forsberg in 1884
shows Descartes teaching geometry and Astronomy to Queen Christina of Sweden (1626-1689).
He had to teach three times a week at 5AM.
Being used to rise at 11am before, it was not long until
he caught pneumonia and died in 1650.
