Subject Material: We shall cover parts of chapters 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the text.
Reading: Reading the sections of the textbook corresponding to the assigned homework exercises is considered part of the homework assignment; you are responsible for material in the assigned reading whether or not it is discussed in the lecture. It will be expected that you read the assigned material in advance of each lecture.
Calculators: A scientific calculator will be useful in doing some of the homework problems. Calculators will not be permitted on exams.
Homework: Homework will be assigned and is listed on the main course page. It will typically be due at the beginning of lecture on Monday and Wednesday. You are encouraged to study with others, but the work you turn in should be your own; do not just copy someone else's answer. You should make every effort to complete the homework assignments and seek help with problems you have not been able to solve.
Your homework grade will be based on your best 4 of 6 graded homework assignments. Late homework will not be accepted.
Midterm Exams: There will be two midterm exams given during the regular lecture time. You may bring one 8.5 x 11 inch handwritten sheet (back and front is ok) of notes. No calculators. There will be no makeup exams.
Final Examination: You may bring one 8.5 x 11 inch handwritten sheet (back and front is ok) of notes. No calculators. The final examination will be held at the following time.

Your course grade will be determined by your cumulative average at the end of
