PISA 2025

The new PIsa 2025 data just came out. We had followed this for two decades now. See this page from 2023 on rhetorik.ch.
Here is the full report 2025 (PDF). There is a general decline, especially in math and reading. The report mentions that students who do not use AI outperform those who do not. This is of course not a surprise. Switzerland is still strong in math (lost like the average -9) essentially all countries lost in math, the US only -2.

                       2022	2025	Change
Switzerland — Math	508	499	−9
Switzerland — Reading	483	470	−13
Switzerland — Science	503	501	−1

U.S. — Math	465	463	−2
U.S. — Reading	504	490	−14
U.S. — Science	499	502	+2
In mathematics, Switzerland remains top internationally at 499. Only Japan (525), Korea (522) and Estonia (508) score higher The U.S., at 463, is essentially at the OECD average. The US did better relative to the international trend: mathematics was nearly stable, while the OECD average dropped.
Personal assessment: I myself think that we have not seen the effect of AI yet. In the short term, the use of AI does not diminish hinking abilities - in contrary: it is like a performance enhancing drug and makes you feel high and renders you powerful. Also, this is a snapshot from 2025. In 2025, the AI technology was so stupid in comparison to what we have now. 2025 was was still only heroin grade, 2026 it has become fentanyl already. The motivation to learn and train basic skills could diminish significantly.
